When Neuroscan’s Scan software was released in the early 1990’s, it heralded a new generation in EEG and ERP research. Since the initial release, Scan has been adapted to multiple generations of Microsoft OS evolutionary stages from DOS through to Windows XP and Windows 7. However with recent Windows upgrades, and continuous improvement in the design and operation of computer hardware technology, the support of Scan on the latest PC’s is no longer viable.
For Compumedics Neuroscan to continue supporting cutting-edge neuroscience, our products must adapt to take advantage of the latest in both computer technology and OS development. This means our products must change, and with that, product support.
EEG/ERP Acquisition & Signal Processing Now Curry Modules
In 2011, our Curry program evolved from a multimodal integration platform to also include modules enabling data acquisition and signal processing. Many features have been added to these modules that were simply not possible within the Scan architecture, including real time artifact suppression, on-the-fly changes to ERP averaging including event subtraction, and an array of real-time spectral displays of raw and processed (e.g., gradient and BCG artifact suppressed) EEG and ERP data. Offline signal processing now offers a module for statistical analysis of individual and group ERPs, based on the EEG/ERP data collected from all electrodes. Data acquired in Curry can be directly streamed to Matlab, and will be importable via EEGLab after acquisition is complete.
Focusing on a single software platform increases resources for support. In addition to the traditional contact points, support also includes the entire Curry development team, leading to rapid response (often within 24 hours). Consequently, minor releases including feature improvements and bug fixes, occur at least twice a year.
For our users who are no longer covered under a service contract, the support of Scan will come to an end, effective June 30, 2015. In preparation, a full FAQ document about Scan has been prepared and is posted to the Compumedics Neuroscan Website.
